SEC30: An E3M Lecture by Rodney Schwartz from ClearlySo

A fascinating insight into the kind of information you get at an E3M session, with Rodney Schwartz from ClearlySo.

17th May 2016

In our latest episode I am delighted to give you an insight into an E3M session. For more information about what E3M is and does, please visit our website and have a listen to some of the previous interviews conducted on the sidelines of E3M events.

As somewhat of a social enterprise novice, entering an E3M event was, on paper at least, a daunting prospect – social business leaders from all over the country getting together, talking about their businesses and waxing lyrical on the topics of the day.

However, the experience is far different from the prospect – listening to social enterprise leaders talking candidly about their businesses and the ins and outs of their organisation.

On the episode I have a presentation from Rod Schwartz, the founder and chief executive of ClearlySo. He discusses and gives expert advice on deal management, including how to structure a deal, negotiating, managing risk, and the use of intermediaries (such as lawyers) among many other things.

ClearlySo sit at the heart of social investment in Britain. They work exclusively with high-impact businesses, charities and funds. They help businesses raise capital through financial advisory work, and introduce them to institutional and individual investors who share their objectives and values. To date they have raised £105m of impact investment for their clients. They also deliver contracts for the Big Lottery Fund and the Cabinet Office.

Rod gives much more detail about what ClearlySo do and how they deliver it in this presentation and it’s a fascinating insight for anyone who is unfamiliar with social investment.

I hope you enjoy the episode.
