Skills and Training

We provide a comprehensive training programme to ensure you are fully skilled and confident in your role as a foster carer. All full-time foster carers must complete the following mandatory courses:

  • HNC Social Services
  • SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People)

These qualifications are certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and delivered by Kibble trainers and external assessors at our main campus in Paisley. Each course takes one year to complete and the HNC in Social Services would be completed first, before undertaking the SVQ qualification. Both courses must be completed within the first three years of your registration to become a foster carer.

Do I need any qualifications to foster?

No, there are no training pre-requisites to foster with Kibble as all training will be provided upon registration. We do ask however that you have at least two years’ experience in working with children and young people. The most important thing is that you enjoy working with children and young people, and want to make a difference!
