Psychology Services

The psychology team works across the whole of the Kibble campus, providing a range of evidence-based services. The team consists of three Registered and Chartered Forensic Psychologists.

Assessment

When a young person is admitted to Kibble, a psychologist will provide an initial screening of their emotional well-being. The team then works closely with the young person and key people in their life to determine the next step. Areas that may be assessed include the risk of violent or sexual offending, cognitive ability and mental health, including trauma.

Research

The team is keen to ensure best practice and undertakes research in order to achieve this. Completed projects include 'The Psychological Impact of Physical Restraint on Young People', and 'Ross Programme: Effectiveness with Young People in Residential Childcare' [Psychology, Psychiatry and the Law (2009)].

Consultation

The service provides consultancy to many teams and professionals on areas ranging from the care of individual young people to policy design and implementation.

Intervention

A number of interventions are provided by the Programmes Team, and the Psychology Service works closely with them to support best practice interventions across the campus. More direct intervention and treatment are available and members of the team have been trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (BABCP accredited post-graduate courses) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Training

The team delivers training in a number of areas including risk assessment, attachment, motivational interviewing, G-Map Good Lives and other bespoke training as required.

Referrals

Any young person accommodated in Kibble can be referred at any time. If you wish to refer a young person either contact Psychological Services at the number below or ask a member of care staff to complete a referral form.
