On the 10th November 2006, Kibble was very pleased to win the ROCCO Award for Corporate Social Responsibility. This award is sponsored by Riverside Braehead (an office development by CSC and Park Lane).
A spokesman for the ROCCO awards writes...... "Renfrewshire's economy is booming with a wealth of ambitious, successful entrepreneurs and private companies with the drive and determination to make Renfrewshire a great place to be in business.
Many of these great businesses were recognised for their success at the third Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce ROCCO Awards held on Friday 10th November at a packed Normandy Hotel in Renfrew and once again hosted by Fred MacAulay in his own inimitable style.
Along with help from all our sponsors, Fred introduced the stories behind all the short-listed and winning businesses. From manufacturing to retail, from service sector to professional, from engineering to distribution, the very best of entrepreneurial flair and drive was in ample evidence on the night.
The ROCCO Awards once again demonstrated the progress and changes that have taken place in Renfrewshire over the last twenty years. It is now a diverse economy home to many world class businesses succeeding in competitive global markets.
Indeed, as the programme on the night revealed, employment is forecast to grow by 4% by 2011 - that is great news for everyone and this statistic alone shows how much is being achieved and the contribution being made to create a strong economy by the business community in Renfrewshire.
As President Jim Harrold said, Renfrewshire's businesses are not only succeeding against tough competition - they are also having to shoulder a growing number of time consuming and costly legislative and tax burdens. Jim pointed out that, since 1998, the cost of new legislation to business is over £50 billion. And it is not just legislation that is costing business dear. Last year, public sector pay rises were 30% higher than the private sector and the liability of public sector pensions is estimated to be nearly £1,000 billion.
Now, more than ever, Renfrewshire, Scotland and the UK needs a strong and buoyant business community free to innovate, create jobs and wealth.
Perhaps those politicians that enjoyed the Awards will realise how much is being achieved by the business community, and how dependent the public sector is on their success.
Congratulations to the ROCCO Winners, to the short list and to anyone in business in Renfrewshire - you deserve your success! And thanks once again to all our sponsors for supporting the ROCCO Awards."
