Staffa exists to provide support to a traumatised group of young people who have engaged in an intervention plan throughout the other services within the organisation. This group of young people, as a result of previous experiences, may present as having high-risk behaviour that requires ongoing support and interventions.
The staff group within Staffa includes:
Staffa will provide opportunities to young people aged fifteen and a half years old and upwards to experience preparation towards independence. This will vary according to individual need and ongoing risk assessment of their behaviour and community safety issues.
There is recognition that this is a particularly vulnerable group of young people who are likely to require ongoing support long after they have left the safety of the campus and their daily education routines. The transition to young adulthood, employment and their ongoing development is likely to present difficulties and increase their anxieties if steps and supports are not taught or put in place in order to effectively manage these changes. Post sixteen, this vulnerable group of young people who may present as high risk with the potential for inappropriate behaviour are difficult to place in any community or through-care setting. It is the task of this service to provide effective intervention based on risk assessment, self-management and recognition by the individuals of potential high risk behaviours.
