An international perspective has been influencing Kibble's work since the middle of the nineteenth century. At the beginning of the 21st century, easier international communications and travel make this a part of our normal daily life.
In recent years staff and youth exchanges have taken place, whilst regular involvement with various national and international associations and conferences in Europe and North America maintains our awareness of and contribution to contemporary issues and knowledge in the field of quality professional practice. Kibble also hosts a range of conferences, seminars and has offered “Leading and Learning”© seminars in residential child and youth care and in social enterprise.
In 2001 Kibble hosted an international conference “What Works in Residential Child and Youth Care” attended by more than 150 delegates from over 20 countries. Within the workgroups, delegates were encouraged to participate, debate, talk and share their own experiences of “what works”. Full summaries and findings of the workgroups are available here. The information has now been produced as a practical, factual workbook - “Ready Steady Care” and is available in 2 formats. Copyright does not apply. Download here
Kibble is a founder member of EUROARC. An association of researchers and practioners from Finland, Ireland, Scotland and Spain. It has published two research studies funded by the EU Youth for Europe programme with assistance from national governments. “Care to Listen” (1998) makes international comparisons across the four partner countries of young people in residential care. The second publication “It Makes You Think” (1999) examines the issue of “safe caring” for young people. Both documents are available for download here.
