The term Extended Learning is being increasingly used to describe any learning activity that takes place outwith the formal school day. This includes homework, after school and lunchtime classes, summer projects, revision classes and evening classes provided by colleges or other external agencies.
At Kibble, a large range of extra-curricular activities supplement classroom learning, promote pupil attainment and engage disaffected young people who often have negative perceptions of learning and its value.
Extended Learning classes are offered in a range of subjects on week nights, and attendance is voluntary. The purpose of these classes is to advance learning and develop specific or alternative skills within a supportive environment. Careful planning of such activities benefits pupils in terms of improved motivation, better pupil/ staff relationships and a deeper understanding of concepts. It can also support day pupils who may have difficulty in completing work at home.
Extended Learning has three distinct features:

Extended Learning should also improve attitudes towards:
Various teaching approaches will be utilised to support the learning process in meeting the needs of individual students. A flexible programme allows classes to be taught in small groups or for pupils to be tutored individually.
Cooperative teaching, external lecturers, quality resources, educational visits, cultural experiences and summer programmes expand the learning and teaching opportunities for both staff and pupils.
The views of our pupils, parents and carers are fundamental in the evaluation process. The success of individual homework plans and student progress are discussed on a weekly basis with pupil and staff. Regular evaluation will identify specific areas within homework and extended learning which require restructuring or modification.
A proactive approach to the changing educational needs of each pupil will be operated through regular departmental and inter-departmental discussion along with Keytutor sessions.
